I used to love going to work with my aunt. I would watch her doing all of the medical billing jobs for the doctors in the office, and I would sit back and watch her smile as she talked with each individual patient. She was always a people-person, and when she got to interact with people her face lit up. When I grew up, she taught me the basics of how to do the job when we both had some spare time. She asked her boss if I could do a summer internship with her for minimum wage when I was 17 and he said it was fine so long as I did not do the patient interaction. I observed all of the intricacies of this position and learned as we went. I think I drove her nuts with questions most days, but I learned a lot. I was able to work part-time during my senior year doing medical billing and I was the only kid in my graduating class who left high school with a really great career already started.
